Alcheminement: How One Becomes What One Is

401 Richmond - The Roastery Cafe
May 17-31, 2005
Opening Party May 19 6-9pm

A collaboration with dancer Nandita Biswas-Mellamphy and writer Dan Mellamphy as part of Contact Photo 2005. www.contactphoto.com

Alcheminement refers to the path of an alchemical transmutation. Here, the steps of classical Indian Bharatanatya lead the dancer from self-overcoming to self-realisation, from one pole to the other, each step photographed and transferred from a third or photographic pole (the Polaroid) to a medium where the fluid and the fixed conjoin as portraits processed onto watercolour paper. Dramatic choreography meets painterly photography in a dialogue of interactive alchemy.

Nandita will perform her dance piece at the opening party (7pm) followed by a question and answer discussion. She will also be performing Saturday May 21 at 5pm. Dan and ReBecca will also be present for questions on the conceptual and visual components.
